Phase transition and plastic deformation mechanisms induced by self-rotating grinding of GaN single crystals

Chen Li et al.

Summary: The study explores the deformation and removal mechanisms of gallium nitride (GaN) single crystals during ultra-precision machining. The experimental results show that abrasive size significantly affects the surface morphology and roughness, leading to a transition from brittle fracture-dominated surface to a plastic surface with reduced abrasive size. Through cross-sectional TEM method and MD simulation, it is found that plastic deformation in GaN crystals is caused by the formation of polycrystalline nanocrystals and defects, with an observable delamination phenomenon in the plastic deformation zone.

Experimental evaluation of surface generation and force time-varying characteristics of curvilinear grooved micro end mills fabricated by EDM

Yao Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, curvilinear grooved micro textures were created on the rear surface of double helical micro end mills with a diameter of about 800μm by EDM method to lower specific milling energy and forces in dry micro milling experiments on aluminum alloy material. The results showed a significant reduction in specific cutting energy and forces when using micro end mills with curvilinear grooved micro textures compared to ordinary micro end mills.

Effect of holding time on interfacial reaction layer characteristics and mechanical performance of brazed diamonds with Cu-Sn-Ti-Ga filler metals

Bing Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of brazing holding time on the microscopic morphology, interface characteristics, element distribution changes, and mechanical properties of brazing diamond. The results showed that a continuous and uniform TiC reaction layer was formed at the interface when the holding time was 6 minutes, leading to improved bonding strength and wear resistance.

Creep feed grinding induced gradient microstructures in the superficial layer of turbine blade root of single crystal nickel-based superalloy

Qing Miao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the surface deformation structures of turbine blade root of single crystal nickel-based superalloy produced under different creep feed grinding conditions, revealing gradient microstructures in the superficial layer. The formation of such gradient microstructures was found to be related to the graded variations in the plastic strain and strain rate induced in the creep feed grinding process.
