Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Hierarchical Bi2WO6 Microballs by Modification with Noble Metals

Zhenhao Li et al.

Summary: Visible-responsive photocatalysts for environmental purification and fuel generation are highly sought after. In this study, hierarchical BWO microballs modified with noble metals were prepared and their properties were investigated. Results showed that hierarchical morphology had a negative impact on photocatalytic activity, but accelerated the degradation of model dye and hydrogen generation under specific conditions. The type and properties of noble metal also influenced the overall performance.

Hierarchical Bi2WO6/BiFeWO6 n-n heterojunction as an efficient photocatalyst for water splitting under visible light

Srabanti Ghosh et al.

Summary: A hierarchical Bi2WO6/BiFeWO6 architecture with enhanced photocatalytic performance for water splitting and H-2 generation was synthesized by developing n-n heterojunction between Bi2WO6 and BiFeWO6. The heterojunction showed high catalytic activity, good cycling stability and superior photoelectrochemical response due to the synergistic effect of high surface area, lower recombination rate, and suitable band edge potentials.

Effective role of Rb doping in controlling the crystallization, crystal imperfections, and microstructural and morphological features of ZnO-NPs synthesized by the sol-gel approach

Abdolhossein Sa'aedi et al.

Summary: This article describes the synthesis and characterization of pure ZnO and Rb-doped ZnO nanoparticles using sol-gel technology. The samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that RbxZn1-xO NPs have a hexagonal wurtzite structure and their properties change with the Rb concentration. The particle size of the NPs decreased with increasing Rb concentration, and the compositions were in agreement with the selected elements.

Elemental mercury removal by I--doped Bi2WO6 with remarkable visible-light-driven photocatalytic oxidation

Yili Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, iodine-doped Bi2WO6 composites were synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method to evaluate their photocatalytic efficiency in gas-phase elemental mercury removal under visible-light irradiation. The results showed that 1.0 wt.% iodine-doped Bi2WO6 exhibited the optimal Hg-0 removal efficiency due to reduced potential energy in the conduction band, decreased recombination rate of electron-hole pairs, and accelerated charge transfer. The density functional theory calculations suggested that iodine doping occurred in the (WO4)(2-) layer, facilitating the adsorption of oxidized HgO on the surface of the doped Bi2WO6.
