Synthesis, sintering, and effect of surface roughness on oxidation of submicron Ti2AlC ceramics

Sylvain Badie et al.

Summary: The research successfully synthesized submicron Ti2AlC MAX phase powder using molten salt shielded synthesis, and utilized field-assisted sintering technology/spark plasma sintering to enhance densification. Different surface treatments resulted in variations in the characteristics of the aluminum oxide and titanium dioxide oxide layers formed in dense monolithic Ti2AlC under oxidation at 1200 degrees C in static air.
