Polymer derived SiBCN(O) ceramics with tunable element content

Bijie Wang et al.

Summary: SiBCN ceramics with excellent high-temperature stability and anti-oxidation properties were obtained through pyrolysis of cross-linked polyborosilazanes. The element content could be tuned by adjusting the structures of polymer precursors. The SiBCN ceramics remained amorphous below 1400 degrees C and showed high-temperature stability and good anti-oxidation properties. These materials could potentially be used in composites or protective coatings for harsh environments.
