A Critical Review of Waste Glass Powder as an Aluminosilicate Source Material for Sustainable Geopolymer Concrete Production

P. Manikandan et al.

Summary: Research on incorporating waste glass powder (WGP) as an aluminosilicate precursor material in geopolymer concrete preparation has been ongoing for twenty years, as an alternative sustainable construction material with a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. More studies on the use of WGP in geopolymer concrete have been published in the past decade. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive information on the use of WGP as an aluminosilicate source material in binary, ternary, and quaternary blended geopolymer concrete.

Fly-ash based geopolymer mortar for high-temperature application - Effect of slag addition

Izabela Hager et al.

Summary: Geopolymers have the potential to be an alternative to Portland cement due to their ability to incorporate by-products and waste for a cleaner environment. The study evaluated the impact of temperature exposure on the microstructure and mechanical properties of geopolymers, finding that mortar without slag addition showed better performance at high temperatures. Additionally, the research demonstrated the potential of fly ash geopolymers as high-temperature application materials with compressive strength recovery of up to 90% at 1000 degrees C.

Waste Glass in Cement and Geopolymer Concretes: A Review on Durability and Challenges

Ayesha Siddika et al.

Summary: Every year, the world produces around 100 million tons of waste glass, most of which are going to landfills. One approach to tackle this issue is to transform waste glass into construction materials. Research shows that amorphous silica in waste glass effectively participates in the hydration and geopolymerization process in concrete, improving its microstructural and durability properties.
