Evidence that blood-CSF barrier transport, but not inflammatory biomarkers, change in migraine, while CSF sVCAM1 associates with migraine frequency and CSF fibrinogen

Robert P. Cowan et al.

Summary: Exploring the differences in blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier biomarkers between episodic migraine, chronic migraine, and controls may help elucidate migraine pathophysiology. The disturbance of blood-derived proteins transport at the BCSFB and the potential use of sVCAM-1 levels in CSF as a biomarker of migraine frequency are notable findings from the study.

Migraine: disease characterisation, biomarkers, and precision medicine

Messoud Ashina et al.

Summary: The paper discusses the progress made in the search for biomarkers of migraine within genetics, provocation modeling, biochemistry, and neuroimaging research. Challenges and future directions for each biomarker modality are outlined, as well as advances in combining and integrating data from multiple biomarker modalities. These efforts contribute to developing precision medicine for future patients with migraine.

Interleukin-6 induces spatially dependent whole-body hypersensitivity in rats: implications for extracephalic hypersensitivity in migraine

Amanda Avona et al.

Summary: The study found that stimulation of upper body regions with IL-6 can cause widespread hypersensitivity spreading to the paws, but similar stimulation of the lower body does not cause the spread of hypersensitivity into the head. These findings are consistent with whole body hypersensitivity being specific to conditions such as migraine where pain is present in the head.

The effects of vitamin D3 supplementation on TGF-β and IL-17 serum levels in migraineurs: post hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial

Zeinab Ghorbani et al.

Summary: The study showed that daily administration of 2000 IU vitamin D3 can enhance the Th17/Treg-related cytokine balance in episodic migraineurs, reflected in the increased level of TGF-beta and inhibited rise of IL-17. Further research is needed to validate these promising findings.
