Gelatin-based packaging material incorporated with potato skins carbon dots as functional filler

Seungjae Min et al.

Summary: Carbon dots (CD) synthesized using hydrothermal method with potato peel as functional fillers were applied in food packaging films. The CD showed strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, low cytotoxicity, and improved properties of gelatin film. The CD-added gelatin films have great potential as a value-added, low-cost, safe, and functional nanofiller for packaging applications.

α-Mangostin Induces Apoptosis in Human Osteosarcoma Cells Through ROS-Mediated Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress via the WNT Pathway

Shengsen Yang et al.

Summary: Alpha-mangostin inhibits the growth of osteosarcoma cells while having little effect on normal human osteoblast cells. It induces apoptosis in osteosarcoma cells by activating the caspase-3/8 cascade and inducing endoplasmic reticulum stress, while also suppressing the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. The apoptosis triggered by alpha-mangostin is mediated by reactive oxygen species-induced ER stress, dependent on Wnt/beta-catenin signaling inactivation.
