Extraction of cellulose nanocrystals from areca waste and its application in eco-friendly biocomposite film

Anand Babu Perumal et al.

Summary: Areca nut husk fibers were used to extract cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) for the reinforcement of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS) films. The CNC showed good thermal stability, enhanced the tensile strength of the bionanocomposite film, and exhibited antimicrobial activity against foodborne pathogens and postharvest pathogenic fungi, suggesting its potential for food packaging applications.

Isolation and Production of Nanocrystalline Cellulose from Conocarpus Fiber

Anish Khan et al.

Summary: In this study, Conocarpus fiber was chemically pre-treated and hydrolyzed at different times to produce nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) particles. The NCC product retained high yield and showed a relatively pure cellulose composition with strong crystalline structure and enhanced heat resistance. The extracted NCC from Conocarpus fiber has the potential to be a green nano-filler for developing nanocomposite materials in the future.
