Co3O4-ZrO2 and Co3O4-Nb2O5 crystalline-amorphous composites for H2O2 activation via Fenton-like and electroprotic processes - Proof of concept

Bartosz Mozgawa et al.

Summary: This study synthesized amorphous-crystalline composites to investigate the cooperative effect of redox-active crystalline oxides and non-redox amorphous oxides in generating ROS. Various structural and chemical characterization techniques, as well as Raman and EPR spectroscopy monitoring, confirmed the synergistic role of crystalline and amorphous phases in ROS generation, proposing a Fenton-type mechanism for H2O2 decomposition. The advanced oxidation process of the investigated catalysts was demonstrated through oxidation of OPD and methylene blue discoloration.

The effect of additives (pyrazine, pyrazole and their derivatives) in the oxidation of 2-butanol with FeCl3-H2O2 in aqueous solutions

Marcos Lopes Araujo et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the oxidation of 2-butanol using different ligands in aqueous solutions. It was found that the addition of PCA, 5MPCA, and 3TFMPZOLE improved the reaction performance, while other ligands led to lower accumulation of products. DFT studies suggested that metal-ligand pi-back-bonding could be responsible for the reaction activity increase.

Quantification of hydroxyl radicals in photocatalysis and acoustic cavitation: Utility of coumarin as a chemical probe

Sebastien J. De-Nasri et al.

Summary: The paper discusses the quantification of hydroxyl radicals using coumarin as a probe to indirectly measure the concentration of hydroxylated product 7OHC for assessing the performance of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). The study found that under different process operating conditions, the amount of OH radicals utilized was 25 times higher for photocatalysis compared to acoustic cavitation.

Fe3+- IDS as a new green catalyst for water treatment by photo-Fenton process at neutral pH

Antonino Fiorentino et al.

Summary: A new green and fully biodegradable catalyst Fe-IDS was prepared for water treatment using Fenton processes. The Fe-IDS supported photo-Fenton process showed efficient phenol removal. Fe-IDS overcomes the acidic pH limitation of conventional Fenton processes, making it an attractive option for water and wastewater treatment in a wide pH range.
