Effects of the reducing gas atmosphere on performance of FeCeNa catalyst for the hydrogenation of CO2 to olefins

Zhenzhou Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of switching the reducing gas atmosphere from CO to H-2 on the performance of FeCeNa catalyst for the hydrogenation of CO2 to olefins was investigated. The switching resulted in changes in Fe3O4/FexCy ratio, defect oxygen and surface oxygen ion species, Na/Fe ratio, and CO2 desorption temperature, leading to effects on the RWGS and FT reaction. These changes caused a decrease in CO2 conversion, an increase in CO selectivity, a decrease in FTY, and a decrease in the O/P ratio.

Highly Selective Conversion of CO2 or CO into Precursors for Kerosene-Based Aviation Fuel via an Aldol-Aromatic Mechanism

Muhammad Tahir Arslan et al.

Summary: This study presents a promising route for the synthesis of kerosene-based aviation fuel precursors from waste CO2 or biomass-derived syngas. By catalytic hydrogenation, high selectivity of single-ring aromatics was achieved at a low temperature. The development of a catalyst with asymmetric desorption behavior also contributed to the high selectivity. This strategy provides a carbon-neutral route for the synthesis of aviation fuel precursors, reducing the burden of carbon tax on the aviation industry.

Technical benefits of using methane as a pyrolysis medium for catalytic pyrolysis of Kraft lignin

Abid Farooq et al.

Summary: The catalytic fast pyrolysis of low sulfonated Kraft lignin was studied under different atmospheric environments. The use of Zn-or Mo-loaded HZSM-5 catalyst resulted in higher pyrolytic oil yield and increased benzene, toluene, and xylenes yields. The enhanced CH4 activation via metal loading and the formation of a hydro-pyrolysis environment through CH4 decomposition were observed. The CH4-D environment showed a higher presence of H-2 in the product gas.

Surface Si decoration of ultrafine NaFeMn-Si catalyst enabling high Fe-phase electron density for effectively converting syngas to aromatics

Minzhe Li et al.

Summary: Effectively converting syngas to aromatics is a topic of widespread interest. This study focuses on designing a unique ultrafine NaFeMn-Si catalyst using a surface decoration strategy, which significantly enhances its catalytic activity. The surface decoration of Si prevents agglomeration and increases the active surface area, while weakening the binding force of -SiO3 and enhancing the electron density of Fe phase.

Conversion of synthesis gas to aromatics at medium temperature with a fischer tropsch and ZSM-5 dual catalyst bed

J. L. Weber et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the production of aromatics from synthesis gas using a bulk iron Fischer Tropsch catalyst promoted with potassium and combined with an H-ZSM-5 zeolite. By operating at lower temperatures and preventing migration of potassium promoters, it was found that olefins could be efficiently converted to aromatics. Investigating the influence of CO conversion on the aromatization process revealed a peak in aromatic selectivity at medium CO conversion rates. This work provides detailed insights into the chemical events occurring in bifunctional catalyst beds, which could be beneficial for developing an industrial process to convert synthesis gas to aromatics in a single reactor.

Summary: In this study, a series of bifunctional catalysts composed of highly active ZnZrOx oxides and nanocrystal HZSM-5 zeolites were used to achieve direct CO2 hydrogenation into aromatics with high selectivity. The extension of the b-axis length of HZSM-5 was found to increase the selectivity of para-xylene (PX) while shortening the length favored the formation of tetramethylbenzene (TeMB), with maximum selectivities reaching 28.9% and 74.1%, respectively.

Sodium-Mediated Bimetallic Fe-Ni Catalyst Boosts Stable and Selective Production of Light Aromatics over HZSM-5 Zeolite

Ting Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of Na-mediated bimetallic Fe-Ni catalyst simply mixed with HZSM-5 to enhance the stable and selective production of aromatics from syngas. The addition of Ni with Na substantially regulates iron carbide formation and suppresses carbon deposition, leading to increased selectivity to light alpha-olefins. The presence of Na weakens the Fe-Ni interaction, reduces electron transfer from Fe to Ni, and promotes the formation of lighter olefins, demonstrating the potential for developing stable and selective iron-based catalysts for the production of FT products.

Yolk@Shell FeMn@Hollow HZSM-5 Nanoreactor for Directly Converting Syngas to Aromatics

Yanfei Xu et al.

Summary: A catalyst with FeMn nanoparticles as the yolk and hollow HZSM-5 zeolite as the shell was designed to achieve high space time yield (STY) for aromatics, outperforming previously reported catalytic systems significantly. The enhanced catalytic performance was attributed to the spatially and temporally ordered effect of the yolk@shell structure, which fully exploited the shape-selective effect and aromatization ability of HZSM-5 zeolite. The findings provided a strategy for constructing highly efficient multifunctional catalysts, which could be potentially applied to other tandem catalysis systems.
