A Non-Linear Association of Triglyceride Glycemic Index With Cardiovascular and All-Cause Mortality Among Patients With Hypertension

Dan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between insulin resistance (IR) quantified by triglyceride glycemic index (TyG index) and cardiovascular mortality (CVM) and all-cause mortality (ACM) in hypertensive patients. The results showed a non-linear relationship between ACM and TyG index in hypertensive patients aged ≥60 years. However, the risk for CVM increased only when the TyG index exceeded 9.52 in the entire hypertension group.

Summary: The study found that elevated levels of baseline TyG index and higher long-term trajectory of TyG index were independently associated with increased arterial stiffness. Summary: This study found a significant association between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and carotid artery plaque (CAP) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The association was higher in female patients and in middle-aged and elderly patients compared to elderly patients. The association was also stronger in CHD patients with diabetes.

The Association of Excess Body Weight with Risk of ESKD Is Mediated Through Insulin Resistance, Hypertension, and Hyperuricemia

Josef Fritz et al.

Summary: This study found that insulin resistance, blood pressure, and uric acid mediate the association between excess body weight and ESKD in middle-aged adults, while total cholesterol does not play a role. In addition to weight reduction, controlling metabolic risk factors may be essential in mitigating the adverse effects of BMI on kidney function.

Summary: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). High and very high TyG index trajectories are associated with a greater risk of future cardiovascular events.

Relationship between the triglyceride-glucose index and risk of cardiovascular diseases and mortality in the general population: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Xiao Liu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that a higher TyG index is associated with increased incidence of coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and composite cardiovascular disease in the general population. However, there is no association between the TyG index and mortality. There is a potential linear association between the TyG index and the risk of coronary artery disease and composite cardiovascular disease incidence. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings, especially in non-Asians.

Evaluating Triglyceride and Glucose Index as a Simple and Easy-to-Calculate Marker for All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality

Kyung-Soo Kim et al.

Summary: The TyG index is associated with an increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, especially in women. However, in men, the TyG index is associated with a decreased risk of all-cause mortality. The association between the TyG index and cardiovascular mortality is not statistically significant in either men or women.

Xiao-cong Liu et al.

Summary: The study found a non-linear relationship between TyG index and the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality, with threshold values of 9.36 and 9.52. Above these threshold points, TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of mortality.

Triglyceride glucose index combined with plaque characteristics as a novel biomarker for cardiovascular outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention in ST-elevated myocardial infarction patients: an intravascular optical coherence tomography study

Xiaoxiao Zhao et al.

Summary: This prospective study investigated the association between plaque morphology, TyG index, and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with acute ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention. The results showed that the middle tertile of TyG was significantly associated with greater rates of MACEs in patients with plaque rupture, while high TyG index independently increased the risk of major bleeding events in patients with plaque erosion. The combination of microstructural OCT features of culprit lesions and the TyG index could be a useful tool for risk stratification and predicting adverse events in STEMI patients.
