Environmental cadmium exposure and noncancer mortality in a general Japanese population in cadmium nonpolluted regions

Yasushi Suwazono et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effect of environmental cadmium exposure on noncancer mortality in a general Japanese population over 19 years. Results showed that continuous U-Cd had a significant impact on cardiocerebrovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and cerebral infarction in men. However, this significant impact was not observed in women.

The relationship between cadmium exposure and renal volume in inhabitants of a cadmium-polluted area of Japan

Xian Liang Sun et al.

Summary: A 30-year follow-up study in a cadmium-polluted area of Japan showed fluctuations in urinary cadmium concentrations among men and women. The study revealed that urinary N-acetyl-beta-d-glucosaminidase/creatinine (U-NAG/Cr) and serum alkaline phosphatase were sensitive biomarkers for reflecting renal and bone damage caused by cadmium poisoning.

Limited Quadruple Modification of Various Starches in the Literature: Why?

Adeleke Omodunbi Ashogbon

Summary: This work focuses on the limited research on quadruple modification of starches, explaining the complexity and cost involved in each of the four stages of the process. The inputs required for materials, energy, pressure, temperature, catalyst, reaction medium, and time make quadruple modification of starches a challenging and resource-intensive endeavor.

The Recent Development in the Syntheses, Properties, and Applications of Triple Modification of Various Starches

Adeleke Omodunbi Ashogbon

Summary: The process of triple modification of starch involves the preparation of starch chains and structures through the first and dual modifications for the acceptance and accommodation of the third modification. There are two types of triple modification, homogeneous and heterogeneous, depending on whether the three stages of the process are similar or different.

Assessment of cadmium pollution and subsequent ecological and health risks in Jiaozhou Bay of the Yellow Sea

Xiang Gu et al.

Summary: Million tons of cadmium are discharged into China's coastal regions annually, posing a hazard to marine organisms and human health. This study examined cadmium residues in the Yellow Sea's Jiaozhou Bay, finding low contamination levels in seawater and sediment with varying concentrations in different marine organisms. Urban residents around the JZB may face higher health risks due to their higher seafood consumption rates, particularly from mollusks.

Impact of wastewater discharge on the plant diversity, community structure and heavy metal pollution of range plants in eastern Saudi Arabia

Khaled A. Al-Akeel et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the floristic composition of vegetation cover and assess the effects of wastewater pollution on plant community structure in eastern Saudi Arabia. The study found differences in vegetation characteristics between polluted and unpolluted sites, with higher diversity and heavy metal concentrations in polluted areas. Wastewater discharge resulted in the appearance of invasive plant species, potentially impacting plant diversity and community structure significantly.
