Early apixaban therapy after ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation

Anas Alrohimi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of early anticoagulation on hemorrhagic transformation in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients after stroke. The results showed that early apixaban treatment did not lead to symptomatic HT, with all HT being asymptomatic on imaging. Recurrent ischemic events were common and clinically symptomatic.

Early Apixaban Use Following Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Results of the AREST Trial

Summary: The study compared the safety of early use of apixaban with warfarin in AF patients after stroke or TIA, showing similar safety profiles but numerically lower rates of recurrent strokes/TIA in the apixaban group.

Number of Retrieval Attempts Rather Than Procedure Time Is Associated With Risk of Symptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage

Mate Elod Maros et al.

Summary: This study indicates that in endovascular therapy for acute large-vessel occlusion in stroke patients, more than 3 retrieval attempts are significantly associated with an increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, while baseline Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score of around 8-9 or 10 serves as important protective factors against intracranial hemorrhage.

Protocol for LASER: A Randomized Evaluation and an Associated Registry of Early Anticoagulation With Edoxaban After Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation

Anas Alrohimi et al.

Summary: The LASER trial aims to investigate the safety of early vs. delayed initiation of edoxaban in AF patients with stroke, as well as predictors of hemorrhagic transformation. The study will provide data for determining the sample size needed for a definitive safety/efficacy study.

Prognosis and risk factors associated with asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after endovascular treatment of large vessel occlusion stroke: a prospective multicenter cohort study

Summary: After EVT for AIS, patients with aICH had a worse functional outcome at 3 months compared to those without ICH. Male sex, diabetes, coronary artery disease, baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score, number of passes, and onset to groin puncture time were independently associated with aICH.
