Differences in outcomes following an intensive upper-limb rehabilitation program for patients with common central nervous system-acting drug prescriptions

Ainslie Johnstone et al.

Summary: The study showed that patients prescribed GABA agonists had worse upper-limb scores at admission, while those prescribed antidepressants experienced reduced improvement in upper-limb function during the rehabilitation program. Identifying these differences prior to admission may help accommodate individual rehabilitation needs more effectively.

Summary: This study investigates the role of eight classes of excitatory interneurons in the dorsal horn in sensorimotor reflexes, revealing spatially restricted excitatory modules and the differential recruitment of interneurons in driving various sensorimotor behaviors.

Acute post-injury blockade of α2δ-1 calcium channel subunits prevents pathological autonomic plasticity after spinal cord injury

Faith H. Brennan et al.

Summary: After SCI, structural remodeling and plasticity within spinal autonomic circuitry lead to abnormal sympathetic reflexes. Early treatment with human-equivalent doses of GBP can prevent dysautonomia and protect against other complications, even after treatment is stopped. This suggests that GBP could be repurposed to prevent dysautonomia in individuals at high risk for SCI.
