Integrating Mental Health into Maternal Health Care in Rural Mali: A Qualitative Study

Molly E. Lasater et al.

Summary: Common perinatal mental disorders are prevalent in low- and middle-income countries, with a particularly acute gap in mental health services for women during the perinatal period in rural Mali. This qualitative study identified the feasibility and acceptability of integrating mental health screening and low-level psychosocial care into antenatal care delivered by midwives to address the treatment gap and increase access to care for women in rural Mali.

Feasibility of implementing a culturally adapted Prolonged Grief Disorder scale in the mental healthcare system in Nepal

Yoona Kim et al.

Summary: Mental health service providers in Nepal believe that the culturally adapted Prolonged Grief Scale has advantages in identifying at-risk widows, cultural relevance, language accessibility, and detailed symptom inclusion. However, weaknesses such as complexity in responses and scoring, length, redundancy, overlap with depression symptoms, and lack of somatic symptoms were noted. Training, supervision, and a referral system are needed for successful implementation of the scale in Nepal.
