Effects of salinity on growth, hematological parameters, gill microstructure and transcriptome of fat greenling Hexagrammos otakii

Zheng Zhou et al.

Summary: The fat greenling species Hexagrammos otakii is being evaluated for aquaculture production in RAS systems. A study on the effects of salinity on survival, growth, blood parameters, gill structure, and gene expression in H. otakii revealed that low salinity can impact fish health and growth, causing changes in blood parameters and gill structure. Overall, maintaining salinities between 12-29 PSU is optimal for commercial aquaculture production of juvenile H. otakii.

Downregulation of dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase by UVA suppresses melanoma progression via triggering oxidative stress and altering energy metabolism

Silvia Yumnam et al.

Summary: Suppressing dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase (DLD) increases intracellular ROS production, decreases mitochondrial membrane potential, induces autophagic cell death, and significantly inhibits melanoma growth and proliferation. Furthermore, DLD suppression alters energy metabolism in melanoma cells.

Extreme winter cold-induced osmoregulatory, metabolic, and physiological responses in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) acclimatized at different salinities

Md Jakiul Islam et al.

Summary: The study found that European seabass exposed to extreme winter cold events exhibited different physiological responses and growth performance depending on the salinity levels. Fish exposed to 3 and 30 PSU showed significant impacts on physiological indicators, while those in 6 and 12 PSU demonstrated better growth and physiological performance.

An iTRAQ-based comparative proteomic analysis of grass carp infected with virulent and avirulent isolates of grass carp reovirus genotype II

Zhishen Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protein-level mechanisms of infection by a virulent GCRV type II isolate, highlighting the activation of specific pathways leading to immune response and metabolic disorders. The comparison between virulent and avirulent isolates revealed differences in host protein responses, shedding light on the pathogenic mechanisms of GCRV infections.

Dysregulated Provision of Oxidisable Substrates to the Mitochondria in ME/CFS Lymphoblasts

Daniel Missailidis et al.

Summary: Patients with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) exhibit mitochondrial respiratory inefficiency, elevated respiratory capacity, increased energy stress signaling activity, and dysregulation of metabolic pathways, with a greater reliance on non-glycolytic pathways to provide oxidizable substrates for mitochondria.
