Vaccine Candidate Against COVID-19 Based on Structurally Modified Plant Virus as an Adjuvant

Angelina O. Kovalenko et al.

Summary: A recombinant vaccine candidate has been developed using major coronaviruses' antigen fragments and spherical particle adjuvant. The vaccine candidate, composed of antigens and spherical particles, showed enhanced immune response in mice, with neutralizing activity against SARS-CoV-2. The study highlights the potential of this vaccine candidate in providing protection against coronaviruses.

Designing Stable Bacillus anthracis Antigens with a View to Recombinant Anthrax Vaccine Development

Ekaterina M. Ryabchevskaya et al.

Summary: This study improved the stability of anthrax vaccine candidates by modifying the proteins through substitution of asparagine residues and inactivation of proteolysis sites. It was found that modified antigens containing specific domains remained stable, and the presence of tobacco mosaic virus-based spherical particles further enhanced their stability. These findings suggest that these modified antigens in combination with spherical particles could be a basis for new-generation anthrax vaccines.

Aluminium adjuvants in vaccines-A way to modulate the immune response

Ravi Danielsson et al.

Summary: Aluminium salts have been used in vaccines as adjuvants for almost a century, but the mechanisms behind the immune stimulating properties are still not fully understood. A persistent intracellular presence of aluminium ions over an extended time may affect the functionality of sentinel cells of the innate immune system, inducing polarization and activation. The immune stimulating properties of aluminium adjuvants are presumably mediated by several discrete events, with a persistent intracellular presence of aluminium ions being a key factor.

Thermal remodelling of Alternanthera mosaic virus virions and virus-like particles into protein spherical particles

Tatiana I. Manukhova et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the thermal transition of filamentous Alternanthera mosaic virus virions into spherical particles for the first time, showing differences in formation conditions and structural characteristics between these particles and virus-like particles. The modified particles were found to consist of proteins without RNA and have potential applications as protein platforms for presenting target molecules and designing functionally active complexes.
