Maximum luminosities of normal stripped-envelope supernovae are brighter than explosion models allow

J. Sollerman et al.

Summary: In this study, a sample of stripped-envelope supernovae was used to investigate the maximum luminosity of normal Type Ibc SNe. The results reveal that these supernovae can indeed exceed the theoretically predicted maximum brightness.

The Lick Observatory Supernova Search follow-up program: photometry data release of 70 SESNe

WeiKang Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents the BVRI and unfiltered light curves of 70 stripped-envelope supernovae observed from 2003 to 2020. The study finds that SNe Ic have lower ejecta masses and velocities but higher Ni-56 masses compared to SNe Ib and IIb.

Type Ic supernovae from the (intermediate) Palomar Transient Factory

C. Barbarino et al.

Summary: The study analyzed 44 spectroscopically normal Type Ic supernovae, focusing on the light curves. The results showed average explosion parameters of 4.50 +/- 0.79 solar masses for ejecta mass Mej, 1.79 +/- 0.29 X 10^51 erg for explosion energy EK, and 0.19 +/- 0.03 solar masses for radioactive nickel mass M(56Ni). The distributions of explosion parameters were comparable to those in the literature, with some extreme values observed in the sample.

Are Stripped Envelope Supernovae Really Deficient in 56Ni?

Ryoma Ouchi et al.

Summary: Recent studies suggest that the Ni-56 masses estimated for SESNe are higher than SNe II, potentially due to observational bias. This research found a significant observational bias in the SESNe sample, potentially missing objects with low Ni-56 masses. Further investigation is needed to strengthen the hypothesis and explain objects with high Ni-56 masses.

Core-collapse supernova explosion theory

A. Burrows et al.

Summary: Supernova explosions result from the death of massive stars, giving birth to neutron stars and black holes while ejecting solar masses of heavy elements. The delayed neutrino-heating mechanism is emerging as the key driver, but there are still many issues to address, such as the chaotic dynamics involved.

Transitional events in the spectrophotometric regime between stripped envelope and superluminous supernovae

S. J. Prentice et al.

Summary: In this study, data and analysis on four supernovae transitional between SE-SNe and SLSNe are presented. These objects exhibit long-lived and variable photometric evolution with luminosities around the SLSN threshold, but spectroscopically show similarities to SE-SNe. This represents an interesting case of rare transitional events.

Self-consistent 3D Supernova Models From-7 Minutes to+7 s: A 1-bethe Explosion of a ∼19 M ⊙ Progenitor

Robert Bollig et al.

Summary: This study presents the first successful simulation of a 3D supernova explosion with an energy exceeding 10(51) erg for a non/slow-rotating M < 20 M (circle dot) progenitor. By utilizing the Prometheus-Vertex code, a large set of 3D SN models were computed, showing a steady increase in explosion energy driven by neutrinos until approximately 7 seconds post-bounce. The results demonstrate similarities to historical supernova data and provide insights into the potential mechanisms of high-energy supernova explosions.

Model Light Curves for Type Ib and Ic Supernovae

S. E. Woosley et al.

Summary: Using the Monte Carlo code SEDONA, multiband photometry and spectra were calculated for supernovae originating from stripped helium stars. Some of the models exhibit similarities with observed Type Ib and Ic supernovae, but also show differences in certain aspects. Helium stars of varying masses produce interesting transients that have been observed.

The Nickel Mass Distribution of Stripped-envelope Supernovae: Implications for Additional Power Sources

Niloufar Afsariardchi et al.

Summary: In this study, the Ni-56 masses of 27 stripped-envelope supernovae (SESNe) were systematically studied, revealing that the use of Arnett's rule may lead to overestimation of M (Ni) for SESNe. A new model by Khatami & Kasen was introduced to improve M (Ni) measurements, by calibrating a dimensionless parameter beta based on observational data. The results show that SESNe have inherently different properties compared to hydrogen-rich Type II SNe, possibly due to variations in progenitor mass distributions or explosion mechanisms.

Binary-stripped Stars as Core-collapse Supernovae Progenitors

David Vartanyan et al.

Summary: A systematic simulation study finds that binary-stripped stars with the same initial mass as single stars tend to have smaller compactness parameters, more prominent silicon/oxygen interfaces, and are more likely to explode. This dichotomy in behavior between these two modes of evolution could have significant implications for supernova statistics.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of core-collapse supernovae explosions and the difficulty in explaining the observed Ni-56 mass, known as the Ni problem, through continuous injection by the neutrino-driven wind. The results suggest that estimating the total Ni-56 synthesized may be more robust by extending simulations up to around 2 seconds.
