Massive central galaxies of galaxy groups in the Romulus simulations: an overview of galaxy properties at z=0

S. Lyla Jung et al.

Summary: Contrary to stereotypes, observed brightest group galaxies (BGGs) exhibit diversity in their properties. Using the Romulus simulations, this study finds that Romulus reproduces the diversity of BGGs well, albeit with a tendency towards a lower fraction of quenched BGGs compared to observations. The study also reveals the existence of both early-type and late-type galaxies, as well as galaxies transitioning from late-type to early-type due to strong dynamical interactions with satellites.

The VLT-MUSE and ALMA view of the MACS 1931.8-2635 brightest cluster galaxy

B. Ciocan et al.

Summary: This study illustrates the significance of ongoing in situ star formation in the brightest cluster galaxy within a massive cool-core cluster. By analyzing optical integral field spectroscopy data, researchers were able to assess the connections between different components and uncover the impact of star formation on warm ionized gas, shedding light on the relationship between stellar formation activities and gas dynamics.

WISDOM project - VIII. Multiscale feedback cycles in the brightest cluster galaxy NGC 0708

Eve North et al.

Summary: Observations of NGC 0708 reveal a turbulent, rotating disc of molecular gas in the core of the galaxy, as well as a high-velocity, blueshifted feature at a distance from the center. The submillimeter emission peaks at the nucleus but extends to an anomalous CO emission feature, with no corresponding elongation found in the 5 GHz observations, suggesting a possible low-mass in-falling filament or jet-driven molecular outflow. Future integral field spectrograph observations may help determine the true cause of this anomalous emission.

AGN feeding and feedback in Fornax A Kinematical analysis of the multi-phase ISM

F. M. Maccagni et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-wavelength analysis of the gaseous medium surrounding the nearby active galactic nucleus Fornax A, revealing a complex distribution of various gases. The research suggests the presence of concurrent AGN feeding and feedback phenomena, shedding light on the mechanisms that impact AGN activity. The findings provide evidence of a tight feeding and feedback cycle regulating the activity of Fornax A, with implications for a larger sample of AGN hosts and their interstellar medium.

Dynamics and Morphology of Cold Gas in Fast, Radiatively Cooling Outflows: Constraining AGN Energetics with Horseshoes

Yu Qiu et al.

Summary: The study shows that cold gas forms in a fast, radiatively cooling outflow with a temperature lower than or around 10^7K, and cold gas continuously fragments out of the cooling outflow through 3D hydrodynamic simulations. In a range of physically relevant temperature and velocity configurations, a ring of cold gas perpendicular to the direction of motion forms in the outflow.

Black Hole Mass Measurements of Radio Galaxies NGC 315 and NGC 4261 Using ALMA CO Observations

Benjamin D. Boizelle et al.

Summary: The ALMA observations of CO emission in NGC 315 and NGC 4261 reveal regular Keplerian rotation down to the black holes, with molecular gas speeds rising to at least 500 km s(-1) at the galaxy centers. The data suggests BH masses are broadly consistent with host galaxy properties, with NGC 4261 having a BH mass larger than previous estimates. This study demonstrates ALMA's capability to accurately measure BH masses in active galaxies, enabling further exploration of accretion physics in massive galaxies.
