Defect-Rich, Highly Porous PtAg Nanoflowers with Superior Anti-Poisoning Ability for Efficient Methanol Oxidation Reaction

Meng Qiao et al.

Summary: Efficient and sustainable Pt-based catalysts are crucial for the development of direct methanol fuel cells, but most Pt-based catalysts suffer from insufficient catalytic activity and CO poisoning. In this study, highly porous PtAg nanoflowers with rich defects were successfully synthesized through liquid reduction combined with chemical etching. The optimized Pt1Ag2 nanoflowers exhibited superior catalytic activity and anti-poisoning ability, making them a promising catalyst for methanol oxidation reaction. The introduction of Ag facilitated the oxidation and removal of CO intermediates. This study provides a facile approach for preparing defect-rich and porous alloy catalysts with excellent performance for methanol oxidation reaction and superior anti-poisoning ability.

Structurally ordered PtFe intermetallic nanocatalysts toward efficient electrocatalysis of methanol oxidation

Yao Nie et al.

Summary: By using thermal interdiffusions under a removable NaCl cover, pure Pt nanoparticles can be easily converted into size-controlled PtFe ordered intermetallic nanoparticles, while disordered nanoparticles can be obtained by adjusting the feeding contents of Fe precursors. The ordered PtFe catalyst shows higher activity, stability and anti-CO poisoning capability compared to disordered PtFe and commercial Pt/C, due to the stronger strain, ligand, and synergistic effect between Pt and Fe.

Pd-Pt Tesseracts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Sheng Chen et al.

Summary: This study prepared Pd-Pt hollow frame structures with high catalytic activity towards ORR by selecting Pd/Pt ratio, showing the highest mass activity among various Pd-Pt nanocrystals. The high activity of Pd-Pt tesseracts is derived from optimal oxygen adsorption energy due to facet effect and composition effect.

Hydrogen-Intercalation-Induced Lattice Expansion of Pd@Pt Core-Shell Nanoparticles for Highly Efficient Electrocatalytic Alcohol Oxidation

Guigao Liu et al.

Summary: Lattice engineering on specific facets of metal catalysts is crucial for enhancing catalytic performance, as shown by a two-step method developed to expand the lattice on Pt(100) and Pt(111) facets. This lattice expansion significantly promotes alcohol oxidation reactions on both Pt(100) and Pt(111) facets, with impressive mass-specific activities achieved on the Pt(111) facet. Density functional theory calculations suggest that enhanced OH adsorption is responsible for the improved catalytic performance. These findings pave the way for enhancing the electrocatalytic activity of nanomaterials and designing highly efficient catalysts.

Pt-on-Pd bimetallic nanodendrites stereoassembled on MXene nanosheets for use as high-efficiency electrocatalysts toward the methanol oxidation reaction

Cuizhen Yang et al.

Summary: The stereoassembly of 3D porous Pt-on-Pd bimetallic nanodendrites on a 2D ultrathin Ti3C2Tx MXene matrix results in a Pt-on-Pd/Ti3C2Tx catalyst with superior electrocatalytic properties towards methanol oxidation, attributed to numerous accessible electrocatalytically active sites and optimized electronic structures. Density functional theory calculations reveal significant down shift of d-band centers and weaker CO adsorption ability for the Pt-on-Pd/Ti3C2Tx model, leading to stronger poisoning tolerance and enhanced methanol oxidation activity.
