Effects of graphene oxide addition on wear behaviour of composite coatings fabricated by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on AZ91 magnesium alloy

Ridvan Kucukosman et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide (GO) integrated composite coatings were successfully deposited on AZ91 magnesium alloys by PEO and a post-treatment process. The addition of GO significantly improved the adhesion and hardness of the coatings, while the post-PEO hydrothermal process further enhanced the wear and friction resistance of the coatings.

Composite coatings formed on Ti by PEO and fluoropolymer treatment

D. V. Mashtalyar et al.

Summary: The study developed a method for restoring protective coating of pure titanium, damaged due to long-term operation, through plasma electrolytic oxidation and subsequent polymer treatment. The research showed that composite coatings with polytetrafluoroethylene have higher corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and hydrophobicity, compared to thermal coatings.

Optimisation of PEO layers with incorporated nanoparticles

R. Mann et al.

Summary: The incorporation of nanoparticles into a PEO layer is limited by particle agglomeration on the substrate surface. By tailoring the electrical pulse profile to the physicochemical processes of layer formation, the quality of the PEO layers can be improved. After parameter optimization, compact PEO layers with a thickness of over 30 μm can be obtained on an aluminium alloy 6082, serving as a wear and abrasion resistant coating for technical components.

Incorporation mechanism of ZnO nanoparticles in PEO coating on 1060 Al alloy

Zefei Yu et al.

Summary: This study prepared a ZnO-doped plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) composite coating on a 1060 Al alloy surface by adding ZnO nanoparticles to the composite electrolytes. The addition of ZnO-NPs slightly prolonged the anodic oxidation time and increased breakdown voltage, while not affecting the coating/substrate interface.

Formation of multi-functional TiO2 surfaces on AA2024 alloy using plasma electrolytic oxidation

S. Ignjatovic et al.

Summary: The PEO treatment time affects the thickness and surface morphology of the plasma electrolytic oxidation coating, but does not significantly affect the phase composition. The additional addition of anatase particles can increase the amount of anatase in the coatings, but has minor effect on corrosion resistance while reducing wear resistance remarkably.

Fabrication of a Protective Hybrid Coating Composed of TiO2, MoO2, and SiO2 by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation of Titanium

Tehseen Zehra et al.

Summary: The addition of SiO2 nanoparticles during PEO process helped seal structural defects in the coating, resulting in a rougher, thicker, and denser coating rich in SiO2. The TiO2-MoO2-SiO2 hybrid coating showed higher corrosion resistance compared to the TiO2-MoO2 coating, attributed to the sealing effect by stable SiO2 nanoparticles.
