The effect of tillage management on microbial functions in a maize crop at different slope positions

Meng Xu et al.

Summary: This study used soil samples from experimental plots of maize to investigate the effects of different tillage methods on soil carbon, nitrogen, and microbial properties. The results indicate that conventional management has a certain impact on greenhouse gas emissions, with higher organic carbon and total nitrogen contents in the soil, as well as higher soil mineral nitrogen concentrations.

Erosion reduces soil microbial diversity, network complexity and multifunctionality

Liping Qiu et al.

Summary: Soil erosion has a significant negative impact on soil microbial diversity and functionality, leading to lower microbial network complexity and changes in microbial community composition, with an increase in the relative abundances of some bacterial families involved in nitrogen cycling.

The Influence of Climate, Soil Properties and Vegetation on Soil Nitrogen in Sloping Farmland

Shanshan Liu et al.

Summary: Soil nitrogen in farmland ecosystems is influenced by climate, soil physical and chemical properties, and planting activities. The distribution of soil nitrogen in the Luanhe River Basin was analyzed to quantify the effects of various factors, showing that natural factors such as soil parent material and climate play a significant role in determining soil nitrogen content in sloping farmland ecosystems.

Microbial sulfate reduction by Desulfovibrio is an important source of hydrogen sulfide from a large swine finishing facility

Olga Karnachuk et al.

Summary: The study found that H2S formation in agricultural waste relies on microbial sulfate reduction process, with Desulfovibrio being key players in H2S production. The use of sulfates in feed and gypsum may serve as sources of sulfate, while adopting low-sulfur diets, treating manure with iron salts, and avoiding gypsum bedding can help mitigate H2S emissions from pig manure.
