Broadband tunable acoustic metasurface based on piezoelectric composite structure with two resonant modes

Yao-Yin Peng et al.

Summary: This letter proposes a deep-wavelength tunable acoustic metasurface, composed of a fixed piezoelectric composite structure, with a broad operating frequency range. The metasurface unit has two tunable resonant frequencies determined by specific external inductors and can continuously modulate the phase of the transmitted wave. The influence of the inductors on resonant frequencies is studied through simulation and experimentation. Moreover, the simulation verifies the functions of acoustic beam steering and focusing at three arbitrarily chosen frequencies. This work holds great potential in the design of acoustic metasurfaces with broadband operating frequencies.

Perfect retroreflection assisted by evanescent guided modes in acoustic metagratings

Xiao Li et al.

Summary: In this work, an acoustic metagrating (MG) with perfect retroreflection is realized using an inverse-design scheme, improving upon the limited efficiency of previous designs. The study also highlights the importance of evanescent guided modes in achieving perfect retroreflection, and identifies an orthogonal relationship between the contribution ratios of odd and even guided modes.

Broadband acoustic insulation via gradient impedance boundary waveguide

Ming-Hao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, we present an analytically and experimentally designed perfect and broadband acoustic insulation waveguide composed of gradient impedance boundaries. By converting the incident plane wave into the surface wave mode using these designed impedance boundaries, the transmission rate reaches nearly zero in a broadband range (typically 1800-7000 Hz), and the bandwidth can be adjusted to fit different noise spectra. Our results contribute to possible designs for reducing noise challenges in waveguides.

Sound focusing by a broadband acoustic Luneburg lens

Baoguo Yuan et al.

Summary: This work proposes a scheme and demonstrates a planar acoustic Luneburg lens that can focus broadband sound without aberration. The refractive indexes of the lens are obtained from acoustic metamaterials, and the lens is fabricated using 3D printing technology. The experimental results agree well with numerical simulations, and the lens is further utilized to construct a wide-angle acoustic reflector.

Shadow enhanced self-charging power system for wave and solar energy harvesting from the ocean

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a shadow-tribo-effect nanogenerator that combines tribo-effect and shadow-effect to overcome the issue of ubiquitous shadows in hybrid energy-harvesting systems, providing a cost-effective method for capturing and storing wave/solar energy from the oceans. The integration of fiber-supercapacitors with the nanogenerator forms a self-charging power system, demonstrating the potential for next-generation large-scale blue energy harvesting.
