Stable core-shell ZIF-8@ZIF-67 MOFs photocatalyst for highly efficient degradation of organic pollutant and hydrogen evolution

Zheao Huang et al.

Summary: Core-shell MOF crystals, such as ZIF-8@ZIF-67, synthesized through crystal growth method, exhibit significantly enhanced light adsorption, charge separation capabilities, and stability compared to single MOF crystals. The study proposes two connection modes between ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 frames at the core-shell contact interface, elucidating the photocatalytic mechanism. Transient photovoltaic curve reveals efficient charge separation through unique transfer paths of electrons at the contact interface.

Copper-doped metal-organic frameworks for the controlled generation of nitric oxide from endogenous S-nitrosothiols

Yingzhu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study reports the synthesis of a catalyst, copper-doped zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-8 (Cu2+/ZIF-8), designed to generate nitric oxide from naturally occurring endogenous NO donors. By tuning the copper doping percentages, controlled NO generation from S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) and S-nitrosocysteine (CysNO) was achieved. The copper-doped ZIF-8 catalyst showed a 10-fold increased amount of NO compared to previous reports, demonstrating its potential in dispersing bacterial biofilms in the presence of GSNO.
