Polygonal Finite Element for Two-Dimensional Lid-Driven Cavity Flow

T. Vu-Huu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a polygonal finite element (PFE) method to solve a two-dimensional incompressible fluid problem. The method is validated using lid-driven cavity flow as a benchmark, and it employs an equal-order mixed finite element method and a stabilisation technique. The nonlinear problem is handled using the Picard iteration scheme, and the method's performance and convergence are verified through simulations using MATLAB. The results are compared with available data from the literature.

A finite element approach for the static and vibration analyses of functionally graded material viscoelastic sandwich beams with nonlinear material behavior

Koutoati Kouami et al.

Summary: A beam finite element model is proposed for static and free vibration analyses of FGM sandwich beams with viscoelastic nonlinear material behavior. Different viscoelastic frequency-dependent laws, Timoshenko 1st order, and Reddy's higher order shear models are used. The stiffness matrix is nonlinear and frequency dependent. The study shows that beam behavior is sensitive to the loss factor, and damping properties are nonlinearly dependent on the power law index. Boundary conditions affect vibration modes.

A cell-based smoothed finite element formulation for viscoelastic laminated composite plates considering hygrothermal effects

Sy-Ngoc Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study examines viscoelastic analysis of composite laminated plates using a smoothed finite element method, considering the influence of hygrothermal effects. The first-order shear deformation theory is employed, and the stress-strain relationship is simplified in the transformed domain using Laplace transformation and inverse techniques. This provides an effective computational tool for analyzing viscoelastic response in laminated composites with consideration of time and hygrothermal effects.
