Origins of Electron-Transfer Regime in Persulfate-Based Nonradical Oxidation Processes

Wei Ren et al.

Summary: This review discusses the use of persulfate-based nonradical oxidation processes (PS-NOPs) in wastewater purification, focusing on recent advances in nonradical electron-transfer regimes, including design of catalysts, in situ/operando characterization/analytics, and understanding the origins of electron-transfer mechanisms. The study found that persulfate is activated by a catalyst to form surface activated complexes, which interact directly or indirectly with target pollutants for oxidation.

Dual-acting cellulose nanocomposites filled with carbon nanotubes and zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67)-derived polyhedral porous Co3O4 for symmetric supercapacitors

Keqi Qu et al.

Summary: By integrating nanocellulose as a green binder with conductive materials, natural material cellulose has been more efficiently used in energy storage applications. Embedding carbon nanotubes in porous Co3O4 derived from zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 has effectively enhanced the conductivity and morphology of the composites.

Revisiting the Graphitized Nanodiamond-Mediated Activation of Peroxymonosulfate: Singlet Oxygenation versus Electron Transfer

Penghui Shao et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical studies show that the activity of nanodiamonds is influenced by the degree of graphitization, with intensified surface graphitization altering the degradation mechanism. A self-constructed time-resolved phosphorescence detection system was used for the first time to provide direct evidence of singlet oxygen production in the PMS-based system.

Photocatalytic oxidation removal of fluoride ion in wastewater by g-C3N4/TiO2 under simulated visible light

Chunling Lin et al.

Summary: The highly active g-C3N4/TiO2 heterojunction nanocomposites were successfully synthesized using a hydro-thermal method and calcination, showing a significantly higher photocatalytic activity compared to pure g-C3N4. Characterization and photocatalytic activity tests revealed that the heterojunction played a key role in the efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and rapid charge transfer.

Modification of coconut shell-based activated carbon and purification of wastewater

Zhihua Deng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the purification of wastewater containing heavy metals using coconut shell-based activated carbon modified by different agents. The modification significantly reduced adsorption equilibrium time, decreased carbon adsorbent addition, and improved removal purification. The agents of acid, alkali, and potassium showed better impact on purification than iron salt, successfully removing over 90% of pollutants with a 1-g dosage of adsorbent. Additionally, increasing adsorption reaction time and the amount of adsorbent showed a direct relationship to the adsorption effect.

Selective removal of As(V) from wastewater with high efficiency by glycine-modified Fe/Zn-layered double hydroxides

Chongzhi Yin et al.

Summary: The study focuses on improving the adsorption effect and selectivity of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) for oxyanions by preparing glycine-modified Fe/Zn-LDH (GFeZn). The GFe(1)Zn(1) with a Fe/Zn mole ratio of 1:1 achieved excellent selectivity for As(V), with a saturated adsorption capacity of 859.52 mg/g and an adsorption equilibrium established between 60 and 120 minutes. The GFe(1)Zn(1) also showed excellent reusability with only a 13.30% decrease in adsorption capacity after 5 adsorption/desorption cycles, providing a new method for selectively removing As(V) from polluted water.
