Switchable Imine and Amine Synthesis Catalyzed by a Well-Defined Cobalt Complex

Keshav Paudel et al.

Summary: The presence of base plays a crucial role in determining the selectivity of the imine and amine synthesis process. A catalytic amount of base leads to imine formation, while an excess loading of base results in amine product. The product selectivity also strongly depends on the organometallic catalysts used.

Rationally Designed Metal Cocatalyst for Selective Photosynthesis of Bibenzyls via Dehalogenative C-C Homocoupling

Yaru Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of Cu as a catalyst for promoting the C-C coupling of aromatic halides, with Cu-modified TiO2 photocatalyst showing efficient and selective reaction conditions. This low-cost photocatalyst performs well in scaling up and selective coupling of benzyl bromide derivatives, showing promise as an attractive process for applications in heterogeneous photocatalysis. This design strategy can also be applied to modify other photocatalysts to achieve C-C coupling of benzyl bromide under visible light.

In-Situ-Generated Active Hf-hydride in Zeolites for the Tandem N-Alkylation of Amines with Benzyl Alcohol

Sergio Rojas-Buzo et al.

Summary: Different silicates containing Lewis acid sites were studied for the tandem N-alkylation reaction of aniline with benzyl alcohol, with Hf-Beta and Zr-Beta showing the highest catalytic activity. The N-alkylation reaction was found to proceed through a hydrogen borrowing pathway, with in situ Hf-hydride species generated. Thermal treatment of the catalyst increased the amount of active species, and the Hf-Beta zeolite could be reused multiple times without significant deactivation.

Catalytic Role of Metal Nanoparticles in Selectivity Control over Photodehydrogenative Coupling of Primary Amines to Imines and Secondary Amines

Jin Yu et al.

Summary: Through experiments on photodehydrogenative coupling of primary amines supported by Pt and Pd NPs on graphitic carbon nitride, it was found that Pt has weak adsorption for photogenerated imines and H atoms leading to imine production, while Pd promotes consecutive hydrogenation of imines due to strong affinity for both imine and H atoms, resulting in high yields of a series of imines and secondary amines.

Cobalt-Based Quasi-Metal-Organic Framework as a Tandem Catalyst for Room-Temperature Open-Air One-Pot Synthesis of Imines

Minoo Bagheri et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the quasi-TMU-10 framework obtained at 300 degrees C (QT-300) shows excellent catalytic performance as a tandem catalyst in the one-pot synthesis of N-benzylideneaniline, forming water as the only byproduct. The presence of unsaturated cobalt sites and micro- and mesopores in QT-300 contribute to its outstanding catalytic performance.

Copper-catalysed amination of alkyl iodides enabled by halogen-atom transfer

Bartosz Gorski et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates an alternative amination strategy using alkyl iodides as radical precursors and copper catalysis to assemble sp3 C-N bonds at room temperature. This method provides S(N)2-like programmability and has been shown to be useful in the late-stage functionalization of pharmaceuticals for the preparation of valuable N-alkylated drug analogues.

Biorenewable carbon-supported Ru catalyst for N-alkylation of amines with alcohols and selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes

Vishakha Goyal et al.

Summary: The developed Ru/PNC-700 catalyst showed remarkable catalytic activity and selectivity in the N-alkylation and chemoselective hydrogenation of compounds, allowing for the synthesis of pharmaceutical agents and key drug intermediates in excellent yields under mild conditions using water as a green solvent. Furthermore, the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused up to five times without any noticeable loss in activity and selectivity.
