Heteroatomic Platinum-Cobalt Synergetic Active Centers with Charge Polarization Enable Superior Hydrogen Evolution Performance in both Acid and Base Media

Zhengyi Cao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the rational design of an excellent PtCo nanoalloy catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) through the alloying of platinum (Pt) and cobalt (Co) atoms. The porous carbon-supported PtCo catalyst exhibits superior performance in both acid and base media, surpassing commercial Pt/C and most reported catalysts. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that the charge redistribution optimization in the alloy creates dual-atomic synergistic active units for intermediate species transfers, particularly with water-dissociation activation in basic condition.

Pt Decorated Ni-Ni(OH)2 Nanotube Arrays for Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Dandan Li et al.

Summary: The Pt@Ni-Ni(OH)(2) nanotube arrays heterostructure catalyst achieves high-efficiency alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction by optimizing the interaction between Pt and Ni(OH)(2), resulting in lower overpotential and improved durability. The use of metal composites on the oxygen-philic surface effectively induces the loading of Pt nanoparticles, providing a new idea for the preparation of high-efficiency hydrogen evolution catalysts.

In-situ loading synthesis of graphene supported PtCu nanocube and its high activity and stability for methanol oxidation reaction

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: A perfect PtCu nanocube with partial hollow structure was synthesized through a hydrothermal reaction, showing enhanced electrocatalytic activity and stability in methanol oxidation reaction. Control of shape-control additives and polymers played crucial roles in determining the final product morphology. In situ immobilization onto graphene further improved the catalytic performance and durability of PtCu nanocubes, possibly due to their unique cubic morphology and the synergistic effect of PtCu and CuI decorated on the surface and graphene.

Mo single atoms in the Cu(111) surface as improved catalytic active centers for deoxygenation reactions

Biel Martinez et al.

Summary: The study found that the doped-Mo Cu(111) SAA breaks the Bronsted-Evans-Polanyi linear relation and displays both a low activation energy for carbonyl bond scission and moderate adsorption energy of the resulting alkylidene. These findings suggest new avenues for SAA design using highly reactive early transition metals as single-atom dopants.
