When sub-band features meet attention mechanism while knowledge distillation for sound classification

Achyut Mani Tripathi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel knowledge distillation framework that distills knowledge from multiple deep models trained on sub-band spectrogram features. The framework utilizes sub-band spectrograms to prevent information loss during knowledge distillation to a student model receiving the full spectrogram as input. The performance of the student models is evaluated on three benchmark sound datasets, and the impact of three state-of-the-art attention mechanisms is thoroughly investigated to enhance the accuracy of the student models for sound classification.
