Penicillium roqueforti conidia induced by L-amino acids can germinate without detectable swelling

Maarten Punt et al.

Summary: Penicillium roqueforti is a fungus used for producing blue-veined cheeses and causing food spoilage. Research showed that its germination process differs from typical fungal conidia germination stages, as it can start forming germ tubes without a detectable swelling stage.

Minimal nutrient requirements for induction of germination of Aspergillus niger conidia

Maryam Ijadpanahsaravi et al.

Summary: The minimum nutrient requirements for activating germination of Aspergillus niger conidia were investigated in this study. It was found that a combination of an inducing carbon source with either inorganic phosphate, inorganic nitrogen or magnesium sulphate is necessary for the germination process to occur. The maximum activation percentages for swelling and germ tube formation of conidia were achieved under specific conditions.

Transcription in fungal conidia before dormancy produces phenotypically variable conidia that maximize survival in different environments

Fang Wang et al.

Summary: Transcriptional activity of fungal conidia before dormancy plays a crucial role in conidia maturation, fitness, drug resistance, and virulence post-germination. The environmental-specific transcriptional responses can alter conidial content and gene expression, affecting the capabilities of fungal cells after germination. Fungal conidia prepare for the future by synthesizing and storing transcripts according to environmental conditions present before dormancy.
