Dietary l-glutamic acid N,N-diacetic acid improves short-term maintenance of zinc homoeostasis in a model of subclinical zinc deficiency in weaned piglets

Gavin Boerboom et al.

Summary: This study compared the zinc response in selected tissues of weaned piglets fed with GLDA under short-term subclinical zinc deficiency. The results showed that supplementation of GLDA improved zinc absorption and accumulation, mitigating the negative effects of phytate on zinc availability and utilization.

Effect of L-glutamic acid N,N-diacetic acid on the availability of dietary zinc in broiler chickens

Gavin Boerboom et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a novel chelating agent, GLDA, on the nutritional bioavailability of zinc in broilers. The results showed that GLDA can reduce the amount of supplemental zinc needed while enhancing the concentration of zinc in the tibia and serum of broilers. This suggests that GLDA has potential as a biodegradable additive to reduce zinc supplementation in livestock and minimize environmental zinc excretion.

The response of zinc transporter gene expression of selected tissues in a pig model of subclinical zinc deficiency

Daniel Brugger et al.

Summary: This study compared the mRNA expression of zinc transporter genes in weaned piglets under short-term subclinical zinc deficiency. The results showed that certain genes were regulated by two distinct homeostatic networks under the experimental conditions, exhibiting significant turnaround response patterns at specific dietary zinc levels.

Clay Minerals Affect the Solubility of Zn and Other Bivalent Cations in the Digestive Tract of Ruminants In Vitro

Maria Schlattl et al.

Summary: Weather conditions and harvesting techniques affect forage quality, including contamination with clay minerals. Ingested clay minerals can interact with dietary bivalent trace elements, altering their solubility in the digestive tract. This study found that clay minerals reduced solubilized Zn, Cu, and Mn but increased dissolved Fe in vitro.
