Iron-Catalyzed Vinylzincation of Terminal Alkynes

Qiang Huang et al.

Summary: The newly developed iron catalysts facilitate the vinylzincation of terminal alkynes, leading to efficient synthesis of organozinc reagents with excellent functional group tolerance, substrate scope, and high chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity. Iron catalysts demonstrate superior activity, chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity compared to other metal catalysts when appropriate ligands are employed.

Zwitterion-Initiated Hydroboration of Alkynes and Styrene

Alessandro Bismuto et al.

Summary: The hydroboration of alkynes and styrene using (B(C6F5)(3) has been developed, with the alkynes being activated by Lewis acid to form a reactive zwitterionic species. This species reacts with HBpin to give the desired alkenyl boronic ester. Additionally, the zwitterionic intermediate can act as a competent catalyst for the hydroboration of styrene.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Hydroboration of Terminal and Internal Alkynes

Maria J. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: A novel methodology for accessing versatile vinylboronic esters through a cobalt-catalyzed hydroboration reaction is reported, utilizing ligand-controlled reduction of Co(II) by H-BPin to generate catalytically active Co(I) hydride complexes. This approach eliminates the need for stoichiometric amounts of base and avoids the generation of boron-containing byproducts, resulting in high functional group tolerance and atom economy.

Overview of Regioselective and Stereoselective Catalytic Hydroboration of Alkynes

Supriya Rej et al.

Summary: The hydroboration of alkynes is a significant method for synthesizing important vinylborane compounds, with implications for regioselectivity and stereoselectivity. Extensive studies have been conducted on catalytic conditions and mechanistic studies to selectively obtain a single isomer, aiming to provide readers with accurate knowledge of available catalytic systems for this reaction. Researchers are encouraged to explore new catalytic systems to achieve the remarkable process of hydroboration of alkynes.

Catalytic Hydrogen Transfer Reactions

Shou-Fei Zhu

Summary: The researcher recently conducted studies on three types of reactions involving hydrogen transfer, including catalytic asymmetric proton transfer reactions, B-H bond insertion reactions, and iron-catalyzed hydrosilylation reactions. The most favorite and original chemistry developed in their research group was the discovery of the B-H bond insertion reaction, which was a result of bold hypothesis, cautious verification, and appropriate evaluation. They supervise students by stimulating their enthusiasm for innovation, providing strong support, and exploring unknowns with them as partners. Passion for self-actualization and curiosity were identified as the most important personality traits for scientific research, and maintaining a balance between research and family was achieved through regular family travel and sharing research progress with them.

Pincer Iron Hydride Complexes for Alkene Isomerization: Catalytic Approach to Trisubstituted (Z)-Alkenyl Boronates

Songgen Xu et al.

Summary: A iron dichloride complex supported by PNNimid ligand catalyzes the isomerization of 1,1-disubstituted alkenyl boronates to trisubstituted (Z)-alkenyl boronates with excellent regio- and stereo-selectivity. The selectivity and efficiency of the reaction are affected by the loading of the catalyst activator relative to iron. The generation of different catalytically competent species and the sensitivity of the iron hydride catalysts to the steric properties of alkene substrates were revealed through in situ solvent-assisted electrospray ionization mass studies.
