Polyanionic Cyclodextrin-Induced Supramolecular Assembly of a Cationic Tetraphenylethylene Derivative with Aggregation-Induced Emission

Jasvir Kaur et al.

Summary: The combination of supramolecular chemistry and aggregation-induced emission-based luminogens has attracted significant attention recently. In this study, a new supramolecular assembly based on aggregation-induced emission was reported, consisting of a polyanionic cyclodextrin derivative and a tetracationic tetraphenylethylene derivative. The assembly was thoroughly investigated using fluorescence, absorbance, and time-resolved fluorescence measurements, and its response to external stimuli was studied. The interaction between the assembly components was analyzed using molecular docking calculations.

Chiral assembly of organic luminogens with aggregation-induced emission

Chenchen Liu et al.

Summary: Chirality is crucial in chemistry, biology, and optoelectronic materials, with recent interest in chiral materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties. The most effective strategy for designing a chiral AIE luminogen is to attach a chiral scaffold to an AIE-active fluorophore through covalent bonds, and latent chirality can also be induced in some propeller-like or shell-like AIEgens. Additionally, the introduction of an AIE unit into chiral materials can enhance their efficiency in circularly polarized luminescence and the dissymmetric factors of their helical architectures formed through self-assembly.

Zhijun Zhang et al.

Summary: Photo-driven theranostics, which integrate diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions, rely on the diverse excited-state energy conversions of theranostic agents. The applications of aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) in this field have been extensively studied due to their favorable biocompatibility, tunable photophysical properties, unique theranostic features, and multimodal capabilities. This review summarizes the significant achievements of photo-driven theranostics based on AIEgens and elaborates on their diverse theranostic modalities.

Small Figure-Eight Luminophores: Double-Twisted Tethered Cyclic Binaphthyls Boost Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Yuki Nojima et al.

Summary: This study synthesized double-twisted cyclic binaphthyls with a tightly constrained stereogenic figure-eight geometry. X-ray analysis and DFT calculations revealed that short linkage forces a small dihedral angle between two naphthalenes, resulting in increased g(lum) values in CPL. Experimental findings were in line with TD-DFT calculations, indicating transannular interactions and extensive delocalization in the figure-eight pi-core, leading to elongation of the magnetic transition dipole moment and significant increases in g(lum) values.

The results show that in different environments, the modulation of emission properties is mainly attributed to photophysical energy dissipation and restriction of intramolecular vibrations.
