Ultrasensitive Competitive Lateral Flow Immunoassay with Visual Semiquantitative Inspection and Flexible Quantification Capabilities

Daquan Li et al.

Summary: Antibiotics abuse poses a threat to human health and ecological environment. A competitive lateral flow immunoassay (CLFIA) platform with flexible readout was developed for the rapid detection of enrofloxacin. The platform utilizes three-dimensionally assembled gold nanoparticles as signal reporters, enabling qualitative screening and quantitative detection of enrofloxacin at low concentrations using the naked eye, optical scanner, or smartphone.

Portable Smartphone Platform Based on a Single Dual-Emissive Ratiometric Fluorescent Probe for Visual Detection of Isopropanol in Exhaled Breath

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: A portable smartphone platform based on a chemically synthesized ratiometric fluorescent probe was designed for real-time, sensitive, and quantitative detection of IPA in exhaled breath. The fluorescent probe, fabricated by modifying NAD(+) onto RCDs, emits blue light upon electron transfer from IPA to NAD(+). Combined with a smartphone color recognizer APP, the method provides a convenient pathway for visual detection of IPA with high sensitivity and accuracy.

Ultrasensitive and Highly Specific Lateral Flow Assays for Point-of-Care Diagnosis

Yilin Liu et al.

Summary: LFAs, paper-based point-of-care diagnostic tools, have traditionally lower sensitivities and specificities than standard laboratory tests. Recent efforts have focused on optimizing assay kinetics, signal amplification, and sample preamplification to increase sensitivities, as well as improving specificity through high-affinity molecules and assay optimization. With continuing improvements, LFAs may soon offer performance competitive with laboratory techniques while retaining a rapid format.

Ratiometric Fluorescent Lateral Flow Immunoassay for Point-of-Care Testing of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: A highly sensitive ratiometric fluorescent lateral flow immunoassay strip was developed for the rapid and accurate detection of the acute myocardial infarction biomarker, H-FABP. By utilizing a custom smartphone-based analytical device and tonality analysis, quantitative detection of H-FABP with a low limit of detection was achieved. The visually distinguishable color change on the strip around the threshold concentration of H-FABP enables semi-quantitative diagnosis by the naked eye.
