Beef cattle production on Piata grass pastures in silvopastoral systems

Summary: In a study conducted in the Brazilian Cerrado, the effects of two densities of eucalyptus trees on forage morphology, production, and nutritive value, as well as the performance of Nellore heifers were evaluated. The results showed improvements in forage nutritive value in silvopastoral systems (SPS), but also highlighted potential limitations to forage growth and animal production with higher tree density. Further studies are needed to determine the long-term suitability of eucalyptus trees in SPS.

Summary: ICLF systems are promoted as a sustainable intensification measure in agricultural production, but evidence regarding the system's resilience to water availability, especially in regions with pronounced wet and dry seasons and frequent droughts, is still lacking. Research found lower soil moisture near tree rows and significant differences in incident PAR across seasons, which could help improve management and design of ICLF systems.
