Subjective Cognitive Complaints Given in Questionnaire: Relationship With Brain Structure, Cognitive Performance and Self-Reported Depressive Symptoms in a 25-Year Retrospective Cohort Study

Anya Topiwala et al.

Summary: The study found that subjective cognitive complaints in older adults can predict similar complaints in the future and often reflect depressive symptoms rather than neurodegenerative brain damage. Additionally, subjective complaints were not associated with objectively assessed cognition. Clinicians should be careful to consider depressive symptoms when evaluating patients presenting with memory complaints.

The Relationship between Life Course Socioeconomic Conditions and Objective and Subjective Memory in Older Age

Morgane Kunzi et al.

Summary: This study found that socioeconomic conditions in adulthood significantly predicted late-life prospective memory performance, while it was also influenced by age and self-rated health. On the other hand, subjective memory complaints in older age were not affected by socioeconomic conditions at any stage, but were influenced by the level of depression.
