Selectfluor-Mediated Synthesis of β-Acyl Allyl Sulfones/β-Acyl Allyl Benzotriazoles from Ketones/Acetylenes, Aryl Sulfinates/Benzotriazole, and DMSO as a Dual-Carbon Synthon

Saradhi Kalari et al.

Summary: A Selectfluor-mediated method was developed to synthesize beta-acyl allyl sulfones/beta-acyl allyl benzotriazoles with excellent atom economy using readily available acetophenones/aryl acetylenes, aryl sulfinates/benzotriazoles, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). In this protocol, DMSO acts as a dual-carbon synthon, allowing for a transition-metal-free construction of two C-C and one C-S or two C-C and one C-N bonds in one pot. This method can also generate chemically diverse compounds by using acetylenes instead of acetophenones.

Photocatalytic Carbonylation Strategies: A Recent Trend in Organic Synthesis

Jitender Singh et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic radical carbonylation strategies have garnered attention in recent decades as a powerful tool in organic synthesis by incorporating carbon monoxide into organic molecules. These strategies rely on the generation of an acyl radical as a key intermediate, typically through high-intensity light-induced transition-metal catalysis or visible-light-induced photocatalysis.

DMSO as a Methine Source in TFA-Mediated One-Pot Tandem Regioselective Synthesis of 3-Substituted-1-Aryl-1H-Pyrazolo-[3,4-b]quinolines from Anilines and Pyrazolones

Pushpendra Yadav et al.

Summary: An acid-mediated and DMSO participant one-pot tandem synthesis of 3-substituted-1-aryl-1H-pyrazolo-[3,4-b]quinoline has been achieved from readily available anilines and pyrazolones. This environmentally benign approach enables regioselective construction of valuable heterocycles without the need for transition metals and oxidants. A variety of substituted aryl amines and pyrazolines can be successfully employed in this reaction, accessing a range of pyrazolo[4,3-c]quinolones through a novel cascade mechanism. Additionally, the application and mechanistic studies of this methodology have been demonstrated.

Unexpected Annulation between 2-Aminobenzyl Alcohols and Benzaldehydes in the Presence of DMSO: Regioselective Synthesis of Substituted Quinolines

Tonglin Yang et al.

Summary: An unexpected annulation reaction among 2-aminobenzyl alcohols, benzaldehydes, and DMSO has been discovered, leading to the synthesis of quinolines. By changing the solvent and substituents on substrates, regioselectively different substituted quinolines can be obtained. The proposed mechanism for this annulation reaction involves the interchange of positions between benzaldehydes and sulfoxides in the product quinolines.
