Reverse dark current in organic photodetectors and the major role of traps as source of noise

Jonas Kublitski et al.

Summary: Organic photodetectors show great potential in low-cost imaging, health monitoring, and near-infrared sensing, but are limited by high dark current noise. Dark current in these devices is mainly caused by traps, which dominate the generation processes and limit their detectivity. Understanding the interplay between traps and charge-transfer states is essential for improving the performance of organic photodetectors.

Temperature and Light Modulated Open-Circuit Voltage in Nonfullerene Organic Solar Cells with Different Effective Bandgaps

Viktor V. Brus et al.

Summary: The relationship between the temperature-light intensity dependence of open-circuit voltage V-oc in nonfullerene-based organic solar cells and the material characteristics and multimechanism recombination parameters was investigated. By systematically varying the effective bandgap E-g, E-eff and the electrode layers, different contributions of bimolecular, bulk, and surface trap-assisted recombination mechanisms were observed. The analytical model and voltage-impedance spectroscopy technique provide a useful tool to quantify multimechanism recombination parameters, effective density of states N-c, and energetic disorder sigma in organic solar cells under operating conditions. The proposed model's validity in understanding the temperature and light intensity dependence of V-oc was demonstrated by applying it to four different donor:nonfullerene acceptor blend systems with conventional or inverted device architectures.

Solution-Processed Highly Efficient Semitransparent Organic Solar Cells with Low Donor Contents

Nannan Yao et al.

Summary: Solution-processed semitransparent organic solar cells (ST-OSCs) are demonstrated using a polymer donor, PM6, and a small molecule acceptor, Y6, to achieve high power conversion efficiency (PCE) and average visible transmittance (AVT). The use of conductive polymer PEDOT:PSS as the top electrode contributes to the high efficiency. The approach of combining a low fraction of visible-wavelength-selective polymer donors with near-infrared nonfullerene acceptors proves to be effective in achieving high PCE and AVT simultaneously, making the ST-OSCs promising candidates for building-integrated photovoltaics.
