Intercalation-Activated Layered MoO3 Nanobelts as Biodegradable Nanozymes for Tumor-Specific Photo-Enhanced Catalytic Therapy

Zhan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reports a biodegradable nanozyme based on layered MoO3 nanobelts for tumor-specific photo-enhanced catalytic therapy. The NH-MoO3-x nanobelts, obtained by intercalation with Na+ and H2O, exhibit excellent enzyme-mimicking catalytic activity and can be further enhanced by photothermal effect under 1064 nm laser irradiation, resulting in efficient killing of cancer cells and tumor elimination.

Aggregation-Enhanced Sonodynamic Activity of Phthalocyanine-Artesunate Conjugates

Peng-Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: The study designed a novel sonosensitizer ZnPcT(4)A, which exhibited significantly enhanced sonodynamic activity in its aggregated state. This enhancement effect may be attributed to the boosted ultrasonic cavitation of nanostructures, and the level of this effect depends on the aggregation ability of sonosensitizer molecules and the particle size of their aggregates. Additionally, biological experiments demonstrated that ZnPcT(4)A has high anticancer activity and biosafety.

Activating Layered Metal Oxide Nanomaterials via Structural Engineering as Biodegradable Nanoagents for Photothermal Cancer Therapy

Zhan Zhou et al.

Summary: Layered metal oxides such as MoO3 and WO3 have been explored for biological applications due to their biocompatibility and easy preparation. However, their weak NIR absorption limits their use in photo-induced biomedical applications. This study demonstrates the structural engineering of MoO3 and WO3 nanostructures to enhance their NIR-II absorption for efficient photothermal cancer therapy.
