Fabrication of four-level hierarchical topographies through the combination of LIPSS and direct laser interference pattering on near-beta titanium alloy

Frederic Schell et al.

Summary: Complex repetitive periodic surface patterns were created on a near-beta Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy using two-beam Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP) with picosecond-pulsed laser sources at wavelengths of 355 nm, 532 nm, and 1064 nm. Various types of Laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) were observed, including low and high spatial frequency LIPSS, on top of line-like DLIP microstructures and quasi-periodic microstructures with periods greater than the laser wavelength. The feature size of the fabricated LIPSS could be adjusted by modifying laser process parameters.

Antibacterial Performance of Zr-BMG, Stainless Steel, and Titanium Alloy with Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures

Summary: The study demonstrates that laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) significantly reduce bacterial adhesion on stainless steel, titanium alloy, and zirconium-based bulk metallic glass surfaces, with the LIPSS on the glass having multiple antimicrobial mechanisms.
