Effect of Cooling Rate and Modification by Strontium on the Thermal Conductivity of Al-8Si Alloy

Guanyi Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the effect of cooling rate on thermal conductivity of Sr-modified and Sr-free samples is opposite, with the calculated thermal conductivity increasing for Sr-free alloy and decreasing for Sr-modified alloy as the cooling rate increases. By discussing the correlation between thermal conductivity, eutectic silicon morphology, and secondary dendrite arm spacing, the relationship between cooling rate and thermal conductivity was explained, offering a new design strategy for improving the thermal conductivity of Al-Si hypoeutectic alloys.
