Tobacco imagery in entertainment media: evolution of tobacco-free movies and television programmes rules in India

The Ministry of Health issued a complete ban on tobacco imagery in 2005, which faced opposition from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the film industry, leading to delayed implementation until 2012. As of 2020, films with tobacco imagery require strong justification, antitobacco messages, and health warnings, resulting in a significant decrease in on-screen tobacco imagery compared to 2005.
