Kanglexin delays heart aging by promoting mitophagy

Hui-min Li et al.

Summary: The study found that KLX and emodin can alleviate the abnormal changes in cardiac function caused by heart aging, including diastolic dysfunction and cardiac remodeling. KLX is more effective than emodin in increasing mitophagy, potentially through enhancing the stability of Parkin protein.

Resveratrol supplementation at old age reverts changes associated with aging in inflammatory, oxidative and apoptotic markers in rat heart

Ruben Torregrosa-Munumer et al.

Summary: The study found that resveratrol can reverse age-related changes in inflammatory, oxidative, and apoptotic markers in the rat heart, suggesting it may have beneficial effects as an anti-aging compound to revert age-related changes in cardiac function.

Mitochondrial clearance: mechanisms and roles in cellular fitness

Mashun Onishi et al.

Summary: Mitophagy is a crucial selective autophagy pathway that degrades dysfunctional mitochondria to maintain cellular health. Proper regulation of mitochondrial quantity and quality through mitophagy is essential for cellular energy balance, differentiation, and developmental processes. Defects in mitophagy can lead to various pathologies such as inflammation, tissue injury, neurodegeneration, and aging.

Alleviation of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Pressure Overload-Induced Cardiac Remodeling and Heart Failure via IL-6/STAT3 Inhibition by Raloxifene

Shengqi Huo et al.

Summary: In this study, inflammation and IL-6/STAT3 signaling were found to be activated in pressure overload-induced heart failure (HF) in mice. Prolonged IL-6 stimulation also induced oxidative stress and an increase in mitophagy-related proteins in H9c2 myoblasts, all of which were inhibited by raloxifene. These findings suggest that IL-6/STAT3 signaling may play a role in the pathogenesis of myocardial hypertrophy and HF.
