Nanoscale Structural Analysis of a Lipid-Driven Aggregation of Insulin

Stanislav Rizevsky et al.

Summary: Lipids can modify the structure of amyloid-associated proteins and affect their rates of aggregation. Atomic force microscopy infrared spectroscopy was used to study the structure of insulin oligomers and observed strong interactions between lipids and proteins during the oligomer formation.

Unravelling the Structural Organization of Individual α-Synuclein Oligomers Grown in the Presence of Phospholipids

Tianyi Dou et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a severe neurological disorder characterized by the formation of alpha-Syn protein aggregates in cells. Research suggests that lipid-mediated processes and the protein to phospholipid ratio play significant roles in the structural organization of alpha-Syn oligomers. These findings indicate that alpha-Syn is more complex than previously thought in terms of its oligomeric species.
