Summary: This study developed multi-ceramic structures with tunable thermal expansion, including NTE, ZTE, and PTE, using stereolithography additive manufacturing technology. Functionally gradient ceramic layers were used to release thermal mismatch stress, and the thermal expansion behavior was characterized using a homemade testing system. The proposed design, fabrication, and characterization methods are expected to promote engineering applications.

Improving thermomechanical properties of cracked brittle honeycombs by negative Poisson's ratio effect

Z. Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of cracking on the overall properties of brittle auxetic/non-auxetic honeycombs by establishing micro numerical and macro theoretical models simultaneously. The findings show that cracks reduce the equivalent stiffness and equivalent thermal stress coefficient of the material, while also studying the effects of negative Poisson's ratio on mechanical parameters and thermomechanical properties. Additionally, the study reveals that significant NPR effects can only be detected in one direction and are inconspicuous in another direction.

Design and additive manufacturing of 3D-architected ceramic metamaterials with programmable thermal expansion

Keqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study designed, fabricated, and characterized 3D-architected ceramic metamaterials with programmable thermal expansion, which can be used in high-temperature or large-temperature-range environments. By using stereolithography additive manufacturing, three different thermal expansion behaviors (-10 x 10(-6)/degrees C, 0 x 10(-6)/degrees C, +10 x 10(-6)/degrees C) were successfully achieved in the ceramic metamaterials.
