Activation of the MoS2 Basal Plane to Enhance CO Hydrogenation to Methane Activity Through Increasing S Vacancies

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The basal plane of MoS2 was activated to enhance its hydrogenation activity. The prepared MoS2 catalysts showed a curved shape, and the catalysts pyrolyzed under a N-2 atmosphere had a larger number of S-vacancies. The increase in S-vacancies decreased the Mo-S bond energy and enhanced the catalytic activity.

Low-Temperature Direct Growth of Few-Layer Hexagonal Boron Nitride on Catalyst-Free Sapphire Substrates

Jingren Chen et al.

Summary: This paper reports a method for directly growing high-quality few-layer h-BN on sapphire substrates via ion beam sputtering deposition, and introduces the control of h-BN properties by introducing NH3 and CH4. Additionally, a deep ultraviolet photodetector is fabricated, showing superior performance compared to an intrinsic h-BN device.

Low-Temperature Direct Growth of Few-Layer Hexagonal Boron Nitride on Catalyst-Free Sapphire Substrates

Jingren Chen et al.

Summary: High-quality few-layer h-BN can be directly grown on sapphire substrates at a relatively low temperature of 700 degrees C by introducing NH3 into the growth chamber during ion beam sputtering deposition. Introducing carbon into the h-BN layer by simultaneously introducing CH4 and NH3 during the growth process allows further tailoring of its properties. A deep ultraviolet (DUV) photodetector fabricated from a C-doped h-BN layer shows superior performance compared to an intrinsic h-BN device.

Broadband and Tunable Light Harvesting in Nanorippled MoS2 Ultrathin Films

Mukul Bhatnagar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the nano-fabrication of flat optic silica gratings layered with 2D MoS2 over a large area, achieving a strong enhancement of photon absorption. By exciting Guided Mode Anomalies (GMA), resonant and nonresonant light can be strongly confined to the 2D MoS2 layers, resulting in absorption enhancement. These large area 2D MoS2 metastructures have broadband and tunable photon harvesting capabilities, making them ideal for new generation devices in nanophotonics, photo-detection, conversion, and quantum technologies.

Jiaqi Shao et al.

Summary: In this study, a multimodal nanoscopy technique was used to probe the localized optoelectronic properties in TMDs van der Waals heterojunctions. The diffusion coefficients of W and Mo were determined and correlated to the local stoichiometry variations, providing insights into the optoelectronic response of the TMDs HJs at the nanoscale level.
