Nanometer-thick copper films with low resistivity grown on 2D material surfaces

Yu-Wei Liu et al.

Summary: Thin copper films were deposited on 2D material surfaces through e-beam deposition, exhibiting preferential planar growth on both MoS2 and WSe2 surfaces. The films showed low resistivity values and the ability of WSe2 to prevent diffusion of copper. WSe2 is a promising candidate for replacing liner/barrier stack in interconnects due to its low resistivity, thin body nature, and unique van der Waals epitaxy growth mode.

Layered Graphene Growth Directly on Sapphire Substrates for Applications

Che-Jia Chang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates layer-by-layer graphene growth on sapphire substrates and shows improved field-effect mobility values for transistors with bilayer graphene channels. Additionally, graphene acts as an effective diffusion barrier for copper atoms, allowing for the potential replacement of current thick liner/barrier stacks in back-end interconnects. The unique van der Waals epitaxy growth mode is also beneficial for both homo- and heteroepitaxy on 2D material surfaces.

Charge Storage of Isolated Monolayer Molybdenum Disulfide in Epitaxially Grown MoS2/Graphene Heterostructures for Memory Device Applications

Po-Cheng Tsai et al.

Summary: Bilayer molybdenum disulfide was epitaxially grown on monolayer graphene by sulfurizing a molybdenum oxide film, with the top layer of MoS2 isolated through atomic-layer etching. The top-gate transistor showed hysteresis in drain current, indicating weak tunneling through 2D layers. This thin heterostructure of 2D materials could be advantageous for applications in dynamic random access memories with reduced thickness.

Carrier Dynamics in Alloyed Chalcogenide Quantum Dots and Their Light-Emitting Devices

Zhaohan Li et al.

Summary: Light-emitting devices based on alloyed quantum dots have achieved high external quantum efficiencies and are considered promising candidates for next generation solid-state lighting and displays. The advantages of these devices stem from the chemical composition gradient of the alloyed quantum dots, which release lattice strain and reduce interface defects. Understanding carrier dynamics in quantum dots is crucial for their fundamental properties and functionalities, and further research is encouraged to improve control of carrier dynamics in alloyed quantum dots.

Antisolvent treatment of copper(i) thiocyanate (CuSCN) hole transport layer for efficiency improvements in organic solar cells and light-emitting diodes

Pimpisut Worakajit et al.

Summary: Treatment with antisolvents such as acetone or tetrahydrofuran can significantly improve the performance of organic photovoltaic and organic light-emitting diode devices based on copper(i) thiocyanate (CuSCN) as a hole-transport layer. This simple method increases short-circuit current (Jsc) and fill factor (FF) for OPV cells, as well as external quantum efficiency (EQE) for OLEDs, demonstrating enhanced power conversion efficiency and device efficiency.
