Pd-decorated 2D SnSe ultrathin film on SiO2/Si for room-temperature hydrogen detection with ultrahigh response

Hanyang Xu et al.

Summary: Developing hydrogen sensors with high integration and high performance remains a challenge. Two-dimensional layered tin monoselenide ultrathin films deposited on SiO2-buffered silicon substrates, decorated with a 15-nm-thickness Pd layer, show excellent room-temperature H-2 sensing performance with high response rate and fast response/recovery speed. The Pd-decorated SnSe/SiO2/Si heterojunction holds promise for high-performance sensor applications.

Tuning nonlinear damping in graphene nanoresonators by parametric-direct internal resonance

Ata Keskekler et al.

Summary: The experimental study shows enhanced nonlinear damping in graphene nanodrums close to internal resonance conditions, supporting the microscopic theory. It reveals that engineered nonlinear dissipation in resonators can be achieved through parametric resonance and internal resonance interactions.

Dynamics of 2D material membranes

Peter G. Steeneken et al.

Summary: Research on the dynamics of suspended two-dimensional materials has been increasingly focused on in the past decade, leading to new techniques for studying and interpreting the physics of atomically thin layers. Insights have been gained into the roles of thermodynamic and nonlinear effects, as well as the mechanisms governing dissipation and stiffness in these resonators. The review presents the current state-of-the-art in experimental studies of 2D membranes, highlighting measurement techniques and the interpretation of physical phenomena in both linear and nonlinear regimes.

Fiber optic hydrogen sensor based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer with a fiber Bragg grating and a nanofilm†

Junxian Luo et al.

Summary: A novel fiber optic hydrogen sensor with fast response time has been developed using a graphene-Au-Pd sandwich nanofilm and an ultrashort fiber Bragg grating. The sensor shows a response time of 4.3 s at 3.5 vol% hydrogen concentration and a shift in optical resonance dip near 1550 nm when hydrogen concentration increases from 0 to 4.5 vol%. This flexible and fast-response sensor is expected to be used in developing low power consumption hydrogen sensors.
