A pH-responsive complex based on supramolecular organic framework for drug-resistant breast cancer therapy

Yun-Chang Zhang et al.

Summary: Chemotherapy is a commonly used treatment for breast cancer; however, the issue of multidrug resistance limits its effectiveness. In order to address this issue, researchers have focused on developing drug delivery systems (DDSs) for cancer therapy. This study successfully developed a pH-responsive supramolecular organic framework drug delivery complex loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) for breast cancer treatment. The complex exhibited high stability and good biocompatibility, and the drug release could be regulated by pH. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that the complex enhanced the anti-tumor activity of DOX. These findings provide a promising strategy for treating drug-resistant cancer.

Supramolecular organic frameworks improve the safety of clinically used porphyrin photodynamic agents and maintain their antitumor efficacy

Yamin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, three-dimensional diamondoid supramolecular organic frameworks (SOFs) were found to effectively suppress the skin phototoxicity of clinically used photodynamic agents (PDAs). The results showed that SOFs have strong interactions with PDAs, can adsorb PDAs at a micromolar concentration, and have high biocompatibility. In animal experiments, SOFs were able to suppress sunlight-induced skin phototoxicity without affecting the efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Self-Assembly of a Bilayer 2D Supramolecular Organic Framework in Water

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: Accurately controlling the layer number of orderly stacked 2D polymers remains a challenge in self-assembly. In this study, a bilayer 2D supramolecular organic framework was fabricated from a monolayer framework in water through cooperative coordination, showing structural regularity in both solution and solid state, with the bilayer character selectively realized on the micrometer scale.

A self-assembled framework that interpenetrates in crystal but does not interpenetrate in solution

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: A new porous supramolecular framework, Bu-SOF, has been discovered to exhibit interpenetration in crystals and non-interpenetration in solution. This phenomenon is attributed to the presence of water filling inside the porous framework and the electrostatic repulsion between the appended bipyridinium units of the tetrahedral building block.

Recent advances in supramolecular antidotes

Hang Yin et al.

Summary: Poisons have long fascinated humans, and modern technology has allowed for controlled utilization of dangerous poisons in medicine and cosmetics, with the development of antidotes becoming crucial. Recent research focuses on reversing or preventing the toxic effects of poisons by encapsulating them in host molecules, expanding the potential for safer antidotes to be developed.
