A methodological framework for analysis of participatory mapping data in research, planning, and management

Nora Fagerholm et al.

Summary: Various methods are applied to analyze data collected through participatory mapping, including PPGIS, PGIS, and VGI. However, these methods lack an organized framework and fail to situate within a broader context. The article presents a framework categorized into three phases and highlights analysis methods with empirical examples, aiming to guide both novice and experienced practitioners in the field. Future developments in analysis of participatory mapping data are also discussed.

Sedimentary DNA and molecular evidence for early human occupation of the Faroe Islands

Lorelei Curtin et al.

Summary: New research using sedimentary DNA and molecular fecal biomarkers suggests that humans may have settled the Faroe Islands for livestock grazing as early as 500 CE, 300 years earlier than previously believed. This evidence indicates human arrival and livestock disturbance in the Faroe Islands centuries before Viking settlement in the 9th century.
